Phase 2 Programme of ATC System Replacement Project

The commissioning of the new ATC Centre in November 2016 marked the successful completion of the Phase 1 Programme of the ATC System Replacement Project. The decommissioning of old equipment and refurbishment of the Air Traffic Control Complex (ATCX) and South Tower (S-TWR) commenced in July 2017 as scheduled, with planned completion in the second half of 2018, to prepare for the installation, testing and operational use of new ATC System equipment in the Phase 2 Programme. The refurbishment works entails the replacement of the S-TWR viewing glass and building services facilities. CAD established the ATCX and S-TWR Refurbishments Task Force in early 2016, with members from CAD, Architectural Services Department, Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, Hong Kong Observatory and CAD's system maintenance contractor, to closely steer the overall coordination of various works items with a view to ensuring nil impact on the operation of airport and ATC services.
