Shining of Bright Light or Laser at an Aircraft

Background

Bright light or laser, when shining at an aircraft could result in temporary visual impairment or temporary vision loss of the flight crew and therefore such acts are posing serious hazard to aviation safety.

Exhibiting any light (including laser light) that endangers aircraft is liable to prosecution

According to the Air Navigation (Hong Kong) Order 1995 (Cap. 448C of the Laws of Hong Kong), exhibiting any light (including laser light) that endangers aircraft is an offence. Upon conviction, the offender is liable to a fine.

The Civil Aviation Department reminds the public not to shine bright light or laser at an aircraft in order to avoid jeopardising aviation safety and contravening the law.
