The Digital Apron and Tower Management System, jointly implemented by the CAD and Airport Authority Hong Kong at Hong Kong International Airport, was awarded the 2023 Technology Innovation Awards by the Airports Council International at the award ceremony held in Barcelona, Spain.

The Launching Ceremony of the Aviation Safety Knowledge Badge Scheme under the Youth in Aviation Programme, jointly organised by the CAD and the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol, was held at the CAD Headquarters.

A joint two-day short and long range Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX) organised by the CAD was successfully conducted with participation of seven government departments, the Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison, the Nanhai Rescue Bureau of the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China and Guangdong Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre.

About 150 representatives from 26 Asia Pacific states and administrations and seven international organisations attended the ICAO 34th Meeting of the Asia Pacific Air Navigation Planning and Implementation Regional Group organised by the Hong Kong CAD at the CAD Headquarters. Productive discussions and presentations were conducted on a wide range of topics, including airspace management, air traffic flow management, aviation safety, and emerging technologies.

Home-developed C919 and C909 aircraft visited Hong Kong for the first time. A series of activities were held during the visit, including a static display at Hong Kong International Airport, a flight demonstration by the C919 aircraft over Victoria Harbour; and a sharing session between representatives of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd and more than 300 young people on knowledge and development of the two aircraft.

The Hong Kong CAD co-hosted the Asia Pacific Region Innovation & Capacity Building Symposium 2023 with Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and Hong Kong International Aviation Academy, with support from the ICAO and the Airport Authority Hong Kong at the AsiaWorld-Expo.

The 13th meeting of ICAO Regional Aviation Safety Group Asia and Pacific Regions was held at the CAD Headquarters and it was attended by about 100 participants from 20 States and Administrations and eight international organisations. During the meeting, the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Mr Victor Liu, successfully completed his Chairpersonship and the then Assistant Director-General of Civil Aviation (Airport Standards), Miss Clara Wong, was elected as the new Vice-Chairperson.

The implementation of the Wake Turbulence Group and Approach Spacing Management System at Hong Kong International Airport won runner-up honours in the "Greener Skies" category of the Air Traffic Management Awards 2023 presented by the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation at the Airspace World 2024 and award presentation ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland.
